3 distinct layer types of the skin –

Ø    Epidermis (top),

Ø    Dermis and

Ø    Hypodermis (subcutaneous fat)

 

 

5 layers of the Epidermis (Top external layer first)

 

Ø    1. Stratum Corneum

Ø    2. Stratum Lucidum (only in thick skin like the palm of the hand or the foot sole.)

Ø    3. Stratum Granulosum

Ø    4. Stratum Spinosum

Ø    5. Stratum Germinativum

 

2 layers of the Dermis

 

Ø    1. Dermal Papillary layer

Ø    2. Dermal Reticular layer (the location of a lot of structures, such as hair follicles & blood vessels)
